According to local reports, students from five Chinese schools issued a joint statement. Students launched wide-spread protest after at least five independent colleges were merged. They fear it would devalue their qualifications as they prepare for a competitive job market. Videos of protest showed police taking violent action against several agitating students. In videos that surfaced online, students were seen angrily shouting slogans against the move. However, a large number of police personnel were seen violently suppressing the protest.
