Updated on Oct 14, 2016 11:10 am IST
Three wild elephants were stranded for two days in a reservoir before being rescued in Yunnan Province in southwestern China. CCTV, the State broadcaster, showed footage of a baby elephant and two adults trapped in a reservoir full of water while other elephants walked around the edge. Rescuers had to use an excavator to break the wall of the tank and let the water flow out. Forest rangers found the stranded elephants while patrolling around the mountain near Xishuangbanna. The rescue work had been postponed due to heavy rainfall for two days. Local authorities believed that the baby elephant may have fallen first and the two adults, a male, and a female, went into the pool trying to save their child.
