'Devastated' son speaks out after paralysing assault on father by US cop

Authorities arrested a police officer accused of badly injuring an 57-year-old Indian man who was roughed-up while visiting relatives. "After police told him to stop, he stopped. And he was telling them 'No English. Indian'," explained Patel's son, Chirag Patel. A video released by police showed an officer throwing the man to the ground. The announcement of his arrest came hours after Sureshbhai Patel filed a federal lawsuit over his treatment.The incident occurred on the morning of February 6 while walking down the sidewalk in the neighbourhood, Patel, a permanent US resident, "was violently assaulted by a police official without provocation, and left partially paralysed," according to the 11-page lawsuit filed.
