Updated on Feb 17, 2012 01:09 pm IST
Iran will respond if attacked but is unlikely to initiate or provoke a conflict with the West, a top U.S. intelligence official has said. The official added that Israel had not made a decision to attack Iran over its nuclear program. The official said that despite the ratcheting up of sanctions, Iran was unlikely to abandon its nuclear program. The West believes Iran's program is aimed at developing nuclear weapons, but Iran says it is for peaceful purposes.
