Students protest near Pakistan mosque
Updated on Aug 11, 2007 10:05 pm IST
Policemen in the Pakistani capital Islamabad on Friday stopped dozens of students of Lal Masjid from entering the barricaded mosque to offer Friday prayers. However, scores of supporters of the radical clerics entered the mosque and refused to allow a new government-appointed cleric to lead prayers. Stave-wielding young protesters threw rocks at a passing armoured vehicle and brushed red paint and inscribed "Lal Masjid" on the mosque walls.
