This seahorse from a New Caledonia aquarium has given birth to a whopping 1,500 children in the past two months -- and will likely eject more babies later in the week!
Jean-Paul, a seahorse owned by the Aquarium des Lagons, can be seen swimming along with hundreds of his recently-born children in a recently released video.
Seahorses are unique from most animals in that males carry their partner female's eggs, giving birth to them later. They typically give birth to between 200 and 500 offspring at a time.
An aquarium representative told Reuters that Jean-Paul comes from the “half-spined” species of seahorse, which can only be found natively in the Coral Sea.
