Hollywood actor Richard Gere has appealed to world leaders to "acknowledge" the human rights abuses committed by China in Tibet. But while some critics of China's handling of human rights have called for a complete boycott of the Beijing Olympic Games, Gere thinks a boycott wouldn't achieve much. Meanwhile, the Olympic torch has arrived in San Francisco from Paris. The San Francisco Police Department has cancelled the leaves of patrol officers to ensure security along the relay route.
