The trailer for American film director Terrence Malick’s debut documentary, Voyage of Time: Life’s Journey, has been revealed. It features Australian actress Cate Blanchett as its narrator.

The upcoming feature -- 30 years in the making -- explores “our planetary past and a search for humanity’s place in the future” and merges innovative special effects with awe-inspiring footage from around the globe “in search of what lasts, what endures, through time’s changing scenes”, as described in the film’s official synopsis.

In making the 90-minute film, Malick has been assisted by VFX supervisor Dan Glass, who worked with the filmmaker on The Tree of Life. An alternate cut, called Voyage of Time: The IMAX Experience, will run 45 minutes in length, with narration from Brad Pitt (via EW).

Voyage of Time premieres October 7 on IMAX screens.
