Iran's foreign ministry did not disclose the locations of the "defensive" strikes, saying they were carried out in response to what it described as "the barbaric air strikes" by the US on its coastal surveillance facilities. Tehran also alleged that the American attacks violated the UN Charter, according to a Reuters report.
Later, Bahrain, which hosts the US Navy's Fifth Fleet, condemned what it said was an Iranian drone attack on its territory, calling it a flagrant violation of its sovereignty and a threat to its security. The Gulf nation added that it reserved the right to defend itself.
Iran accuses US of ‘blatant violation’
Following the fresh flare-up in the Middle East on Saturday, Iran accused the United States of a "blatant violation" of the peace deal reached between the two sides to end the Middle East war after the latest American strikes on the country.
"These brutal attacks, which targeted Iranian coastal surveillance facilities, are a blatant violation" of the memorandum of understanding to end the war, the Iranian foreign ministry said in a statement.
Tensions escalated in the Middle East once again after the US on Saturday launched strikes against Iran over ship attack in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday. Iran retaliated to the strikes that lasted nearly an hour.
US Central Command said the American strikes on Iranian missile and drone storage sites and coastal radar positions were a response to "unwarranted aggression against commercial shipping by Iranian forces" that “clearly violated the ceasefire.” It described the operation as "a powerful response to yesterday's attack on a commercial ship that was transiting the Strait of Hormuz."
No damage caused, says Iran
Following the fresh flare-up in the Middle East, Iran on Saturday said no damage was caused by US attack on the Sirik port and that the situation is normal, Mehr news agency reported citing local officials.
Iran responds to US' ‘ceasefire violation’ charge
Iran has pushed back against the US accusation that the drone attack breached the ceasefire.
Ebrahim Azizi, head of the Iranian parliament’s national security commission, defended Tehran’s position and stressed Iran’s authority over the Strait of Hormuz.
“The Strait of Hormuz is governed by Iran, so: Respect the rules,” Azizi wrote on social media, adding that others should “not mistake control for escalation.”
“This is not a violation of the ceasefire; it is ceasefire management,” he said.
Iran retaliates after US strike
Iranian state television said an explosion was heard late Friday at Taherouyeh pier in the southern port city. It quoted an informed military source as saying the blast was caused by a projectile impact in the area.
Minutes later, on Saturday morning Iran time, Iran's state television reported that the Revolutionary Guards said they targeted US sites in the Gulf region in retaliation for the American strikes.
"If the aggression is repeated, our response will be broader than this," the Guards said, according to a post by state TV on Telegram.
Foolish violation of ceasefire agreement, says Trump
US President Donald Trump had earlier denounced what he described as an Iranian drone strike on the vessel, saying: "Obviously, this is a foolish violation of our ceasefire agreement."
Vice President JD Vance issued a direct warning, posting on X that "violence will be met with violence" if Iran carries out any further attacks.

In a post on X, he said, "This is a glaring contradiction and a fellacious argument aimed at evading responsibility for complicity in a grave internationally wrongful act: publicly denying any aid or assistance to the aggressors, while openly acknowledging the "technical and logistical" support that enabled and facilitated the unlawful American-Israeli war of aggression against Iran. Providing 'technical and logistical' support to the aggressors constitutes nothing less than a clear and direct contribution to the commission of an illegal war of choice -- a blatant act of aggression and a serious violation of international law."
