Gujarati businessman shot dead during robbery at his US store, daughter escapes unhurt

According to the Jackson Police Department, the suspect opened fire after taking money from the store employee.

A 56-year-old man was shot dead on Thursday, August 20, during an armed robbery at his store in Tennessee, US. According to the Jackson Police Department, the suspect opened fire after taking money from the store employee.

The victim Suresh Patel belonged to Gujarat's Mehsana district and owned the store Ridgecrest Cellars Wine and Spirits. His 19-year-old daughter was also present at the store when the incident happened. She escaped unhurt in the indiscriminate firing.

The Jackson Police department received a call about the robbery and the shooting at around 9 pm.

Citing an eye witness, the police said, "An unidentified suspect entered the establishment, brandished a weapon, and demanded cash from the employees."

According to the police, the suspect has been described as a black male. The man's face was covered with a paintball-style mask and he was wearing a gray hoodie, paired with jeans and black work-style boots.

The suspect was seen fleeing the business in a white sedan, police said.

Urging the people to share information on the suspect, the police said, "Anyone with information is urged to contact the Jackson Police Department at 731-425-8400 or Crime Stoppers at 731-424-8477. Callers to Crime Stoppers may remain anonymous."

The victim, Suresh Parsottamdas Patel had been living in the United States for nearly 30 years. He had reportedly started a new business just a week before.

Speaking about the incident, Aakhaj village resident Dinesh Suthar said, “A pall of gloom has descended over Aakhaj village in Mehsana district following the tragic news. Suresh Parsottamdas Patel, a native of Aakhaj village who had settled in the United States around 30 years ago, was shot dead in Jackson, Tennessee.”
