A wildfire called the Hawk Fire broke out near Somersett in the foothills of northwest Reno on Saturday, prompting evacuation orders for nearby areas.
Where did the Hawk Fire start?
The fire started around 11:30am on Saturday, off the Hawk Meadow Trail, about one mile north of Cold Creek Trail in Somersett, according to Watch Duty.
The fire has grown from just a few acres when it started to now cover a much larger area. The fire is burning near the Peavine area of Reno. Truckee Meadows Fire Protection and the US Forest Service are in unified command, according to RGJ.

How big is the Hawk Fire now?
The Hawk Fire is now at 2,500 acres with no containment listed. The Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District said the fire has grown to "approximately 2,500 to 3,000 acres" and is moving northeast toward North Virginia Street between Seneca Drive and Copperfield.

Nevada State Police issues safety advisory
Nevada State Police is assisting with traffic control and public safety services for the Hawk Fire, according to the department.

The department has also asked people to avoid affected areas and allow emergency personnel room to work safely.
Hawk Fire threatens 1,000 homes
The fire is threatening 1,000 homes, according to the US Forest Service, as cited by RGJ.
"Substantial resources" have been diverted from the older Bug Fire to deal with the Hawk Fire, according to Washoe County. The Bug Fire, located just north of the Hawk Fire, was 94% contained as of Friday. The nearby Stallion Fire was 98% contained as of Friday.
Incident command has also requested support from Cal Fire.
Evacuation orders issued
Evacuation orders have been issued for areas surrounding Peavine Peak and north of neighborhoods along Somersett Parkway, Avenida de Landa and Las Brisas Boulevard, according to Watch Duty.
As per RGJ, evacuation orders remain in effect for areas north of Verdi and Somersett, with evacuation warnings for much of the area southwest of US 395 between Panther Valley and Silver Lake, as well as parts of Sierra County in California.
An evacuation point has been set up at the Evelyn Mount Community Center, located at 1301 Valley Road in Reno.
