WASHINGTON: The United States will deploy around 600 more troops to train and advise Iraqi forces for an offensive to retake Mosul, the Islamic State group’s last major bastion in Iraq, US officials said on Wednesday. The reinforcements were requested by Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, US officials said. A US official said the number to be announced by the Pentagon was “around 600.”
