One of the accused 9/11 plotters shouted "You are going to kill us" Saturday during a chaotic proceeding before a military court charging them with the deadliest attack ever on the United States.
"Maybe you're not going to see us any more," Ramzi Binalshibh told the judge, Colonel James Pohl, shouting "You are going to kill us."
His outburst broke a silence that the five, including self-confessed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, had maintained since the start of the proceeding in a display of defiance toward the military court.
Mohammed's lawyer, David Nevin, had earlier informed the court that his client probably would not answer questions because he was "deeply concerned by the fairness of the process."
The five were being formally charged with the deaths of 2,976 people killed on September 11, 2001 when Al-Qaeda militants flew hijacked airliners into the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon and a field in Pennsylvania.
If convicted, they could be sentenced to death.
