Lawyers say the trial of Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi has been adjourned until July 10. Her lawyer Nyan Win says the court presiding over the trial announced the adjournment on Friday just as the case was set to resume after a month-long delay.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon arrived on Friday in Myanmar for a high-profile two-day visit.

Ban was due to meet later in the day with the head of Myanmar’s junta, Senior Gen Than Shwe.

Ban told reporters before his arrival that he would lobby the junta chief directly for Suu Kyi’s release.

The 64-year-old Suu Kyi is charged with violating the terms of her house arrest in a case that has sparked global outrage.

She faces five years in prison if convicted.
