Tulsi Tanti, known as “Wind man of India”, has been conferred with CIF Chanchlani Global India award 2009 in Toronto for his outstanding contributions to promote non-conventional sources of energy.
The award, instituted by Canada India Foundation, carries a trophy and USD 50,000 in cash. Tanti, who was ranked by Forbes magazine in 2008 as the 33rd richest man in India with a family wealth of USD 1.1 billion, received the honour from Montek Singh Ahluwalia, Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission of India and Michael Ignatieff, Leader of the Liberal Party of Canada (opposition leader in Parliament) at a function organised at CIF last night.
Jim Flaherty, Federal Finance Minister; Jim Clement, Federal Industries Minister; S M Gavai, High Commissioner of India to Canada and other top dignitaries of federal and provincial government including Harinder Takhar, Minister for Small Scale Industries of Ontario government were among those who attended the ceremony.
Congratulating 51-year-old Tanti, Ahluwalia said, “The award recognises his pioneering contribution towards the re-emergence of India on the global scene. India’s rich cultural heritage along with its leadership in science and technology enables it to offer innovative solutions to the global challenge of carbon emissions and energy shortages. Suzlon is a case in point.”
