The relationship with India is one of the important ties for the United States, the speaker of US House of Representatives, John Boehner has said.
Boehner said this when the Indian ambassador to the US, Meera Shankar, called on him on March 2, the Indian embassy said in a press statement on Friday.
"The discussion focused on the positive and strategic relationship between India and the United States, which enjoys bipartisan support in the US as well as broad spectrum political support in India," the statement said.
The opportunities for further cooperation, including in the trade, economic, energy and high technology areas were also discussed.
"Speaker Boehner remarked that the relationship with India was one of the important relationships for the US, including for the Congress," the Indian embassy said.
