An Indian fishermen died of cancer at a Pakistani jail on Friday even as 100 other fishermen were freed by authorities.
Sukkan Koma, 50, who was arrested for allegedly fishing illegally in Pakistani waters in 2006, died in Malir Jail in Karachi on Friday morning.
Prison officials said he was being provided treatment for cancer. Koma was taken to hospital when his condition deteriorated today even as 100 fishermen released on the orders of Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani were leaving Malir Jail.
Representatives of NGO Saiban International, which is facilitating the travel of the released fishermen from Karachi to Lahore, said they received news of Koma's death after they left the jail.
The 100 fishermen will return to their homes via the Wagah land border tomorrow.
