Journo pays for criticizing Palin; loses dinner bid

Joe McGinnis, a Sarah Palin critic, had slammed her handling of Alaska's gaslines last fall. He finally paid the price for that when she snubbed his bid for a charity dinner with her, even as he was willing to shell out more than $60,000 to dine with her.

The dinner was offered as an auction for charity by Palin on eBay for the Ride 2 Recovery program, which supports wounded war veterans through cycling programs.

McGinnis evidently fitted the auction rule that said Palin had the right to reject dinner companions based "on her subjective standards of suitability, professionalism, background and other factors".

Cathy Maples of Huntsville, Alabama, eventually won the chance to dine with Palin.
