In a scathing self-critique, the Republican party admitted Monday it was “increasingly out of touch” with the country and its public perception was at “record lows”.
The report urged the party to reach out urgently to minorities, among other steps, including Indian Americans, whom it has wrongly ignored thus far.
The criticisms came in a report of a task force appointed by Republican Party chairman Reince Priebus following the party’s poor showing at the 2012 presidential and congressional elections.
The party’s performance at the federal level is its worst worry. The party has lost four of the last six presidential elections. And it’s losing ground in states earlier considered solidly Red. “Public perception of the Party is at record lows,” the report said.
“Young voters are increasingly rolling their eyes at what the Party represents, and many minorities wrongly think that Republicans do not like them or want them in the country.”
The report argues that the party is way behind the times, continuing as the party of Ronald Reagan, losing younger voters as a result. “We sound increasingly out of touch.”
