Overnight rain causes traffic jams on Monday morning

NEW DELHI: Overnight and morning rain led to waterlogging and traffic jam on the Capital’s roads on Monday. South and south-west Delhi were the worst-affected areas.
An official of the India Meteorological Department( IMD) said 45.2mm rain was recorded in 24 hours; the maximum in the Ridge area, 66.5mm, overnight. The maximum temperature on Tuesday is likely to hover around 34.5 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 24.8 degree Celsius.
On Monday, Dhaula Kuan, Sardar Patel, South Extension, Moolchand, Ashram intersection, Mathura Road and Pragati Maidan were packed with vehicles till around 11am.
“Complaints of jams were reported from few parts around south Delhi but were brought under control by noon. Additional traffic officials were deployed to manage heavy traffic intersections,” said a senior traffic official.
Municipal bodies’ claims of complete de silting of roads fell flat as complaints of waterlogging were reported from Najafgarh, Deoli, Greater Kailash, Neb Sarai, CR Park, Sangam Vihar and Bhogal underpass.
The municipal corporation of Delhi central control room 15 complaints of water-logging.
Ten cases of trees falling were also reported.
