An international theatre festival sharing the same spirit as the Edinburgh Fringe Fest is keeping Delhi busy today and tomorrow.

In an attempt to promote one-man shows in the Capital a new international theatre festival, Going Solo, is set to enthrall theatre lovers.

The event opened in the city on October 15 and will conclude on October 17, after which the participating plays will tour Mumbai till October 21. Inspired by the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Going Solo, presented by Teamwork Arts, is the first such event of its kind in India. It will feature award-winning one-person acts such as the play Churchill and Adolf, directed and performed by British theatre artist Pip Utton, as well as At the Edge performed, and directed by South African theatre artist Jailoshini Naidoo.

“Over the last five years, solo acts have become a trend, and biopics have become an acceptable genre in performing arts. The plays being showcased have historical themes; performances stand out as they are incredibly focused, and the quality is such that it can transport you to another era in history,” says Sanjoy Roy, MD, Teamwork Arts. Ask him if it was tough getting the performers to come to India, Sanjoy says, “No! All of them want to come to India.”

On how the response to the plays has been so far, Roy says, “It’s been fab. The audience was lovely. I did two shows in one evening and also managed to get a standing ovation!”
