Imagine global warming being depicted through a ballet.

As bizarre as it may sound, it sure makes one inquisitive. Kalashree, a charitable society that promotes art and culture through the dance form of Kathak, will be presenting this dance sequence based on the theme of global warming, tomorrow.

Trained by the eminent Kathak exponent Kavita Thakur, the dance ballet has been choreographed in just half an hour. “We have been practicing for the show for two months. I hope it turns out the way we have planned it,” says Thakur.

With neither props nor special lighting, the dancers will play with only expressions, dance formations, self composed music and lyrics to bring the theme alive on stage. “We have tried to depict earthquakes and tsunami through the moves,” says Thakur.

Students up to the age of 16 years will be seen performing the ballet. “My students and I have put in a lot of hard work and time. We are doing this for the first time and are very excited,” says Thakur, who has also been a disciple of Pt Birju Maharaj. “Dance can depict a lot of things in a short period. It is a unique art form,” says Thakur, who has been performing Kathak for 25 years.
