She might have been a one-hit wonder, but Bhagyashree has returned to acting. This time, she is making her theatre debut with a Hindi comedy play, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi.
The actor, who is playing a double-role in the play, admits that it was stage fear that was holding her back from theatre all these years.
“In a play, there are no re-takes and I’d always been scared of forgetting my lines in front of an audience. But when I saw Anupam Kher in Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, I was inspired. Then I convinced myself that I must give theatre a try”, she says.
Written by Prairna Agarwala and directed by Navin Kumar, the play had a private preview in the city recently and will have its first public showing in Dubai later this month. After that, it will travel to South Africa and Canada.
The Maine Pyar Kiya (1989) actor, who was last seen in Red Alert (2009) alongside Sameera Reddy and Suneil Shetty, will soon be making a comeback to the big screen as well.
“There have been many offers and there are a few movies I’m working on,” she says. Though Bhagyashree was eliminated from the dance reality show, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, after the first round, she has not given up on television completely. “If a good offer comes along, I don’t mind considering it. But I don’t think I’m cut out for these shows, so I’m taking it easy,” she says.
