Lo Real Maravilloso: Marvelous Reality is an exhibition that brings together works by 36 Indian and international artists. Celebrating 20 years of Delhi’s Gallery Espace, the exhibition offers works that range from quirky and refreshing to political and questioning.

For instance, Nikhil Chopra’s video Sir Raj III being screened on an ancient television shows him wearing a British army officer’s uniform, lying on the banks of a river like a Nawab and eating fruit. Ranbir Kaleka’s Ouroboros is fascinating. The artist has created a life-size that is broken up into three parts and the hind legs are placed ahead of the body while the rider flashes a torchlight into it.

Gigi Scaria’s video installation Political Realism literally opens the door to a debate on 9/11, Iraq, while Bandeep Singh’s Pot Bearer is a mastery of perspective. One of the most striking works is the eight feet tall The Invisible Citizen by Jagannath Pande — a Neanderthal holding on to Earth, a teddy bear and a tattered tie. Skulls of Chintan Upadhyay’s smart aleck babies hang from the cieling while lizards crawl across Sheba Chachhi’s multi-layered work.

On at Lalit Kala Akademi, Coppernicus Marg till December 18
