Mumbai’s urban architecture reflects multiple design influences. Some spots seek inspiration from the British era in terms of grandeur, others pay homage to the common man.

Now, preceding the India Design Forum that takes place on March 15 and 16, Mumbai is hosting a week-long Design Week, a series of curated events and installations at design-centric venues across the city.

“The idea is to celebrate design, talent and ideas across various galleries, stores and design spaces. We approached a bunch of designers in the city and asked them what they’d like to do. We just told them that design should be at the core of it and that it should be relevant to Mumbai. So what we have is a mix of iconic design venues, like the Bombay Electric store, Godrej India Culture Lab, and other places that encourage urban innovation, like the Flyover Farm at Mohammad Ali Road,” says Aishwarya Patty, co-founder of India Design Forum 2013.

The design trail spans the main architectural hubs of Mumbai, like Vikhroli, Juhu, Bandra, Kala Ghoda, Colaba and Lower Parel, and includes a series of workshops and latest collections being showcased. The events are a mix of what could appeal to the masses and classes.
