After spending over 40 years behind the lens, veteran photographer Mukesh Parpiani took over the reins of NCPA’s Piramal Gallery. Since then, he’s been working towards offering the new generation a slice of history.

For World Photography Day this Sunday, Parpiani has curated an exhibition at Piramal featuring some of the best works from NCPA’s archives — by 80 Indian lensmen. “Of the 500 photographers who have exhibited at the gallery since 1988, many had donated works that we will showcase now,” he says.
A crash course in the evolution of Indian photography, the show features works from the pre-Photoshop and digital age. “We’ll have a mock darkroom at the show to bring alive the film processing technique of the past,” he adds.
There’s also a tribute to Prabuddha Dasgupta, who recently passed away. “We will be showcasing some of his work and even play a recorded talk by him on photography,” he says.
