Paritosh Painter’s I Am The Best, that revolves around a reality show involving two magicians pitted against each other, was previewed last night for a select audience. It took the playwright over two years to conceptualise it, and bring it on stage. The show that will be playing in the city all May, includes elements of magic, comedy and typical reality show drama.

Painter's play toplines Melanie Pias, Ninad Kamat and Joy Fernandes. The preview show lasted 45-minutes, although the actual play is two-hours-long. It ended in loud applause from the audience. “I am a little relieved and am super confident about I Am The Best now. I was away from theatre, both as a writer and actor. Nevertheless, it's never too late to return. Right now, I've made a comeback of sorts as a director. Hopefully, I should return as an actor too," beams Painter, who thought of the concept of his play because he wanted to do things differently.

The climax of the play is particularly catchy, considering that some of the finest magic acts had been interspersed into the play, and were performed by actors, instead of professional magicians. "I asked my friend Mangesh, who is a magician, to help me with this because I wanted it to look real and perfect. So, he researched for two years and helped me get my actors to practice and perform magical acts like professional magicians," admits Painter.
