Sixty of the most beautiful interiors from around the globe have been nominated for the "World Interior of the Year 2014", with offices, school buildings and airports all making the list. This year's annual contest from the Inside World Festival of Interiors includes interiors designed over the past year from 21 different countries.

Each of the spaces nominated falls into one of nine categories: bar and restaurant, civic, creative re-use, display, education and health, hotels, offices, residential and retail.

The nominees in the retail section include London-based MAKE Architects, for its art deco redesign of the famous Harrods escalator hall in London, and OpenAir Studio for its Just Cavalli concept store in Bangkok which sees walls, shelving and installations crafted from rusted metal.

The Bars and Restaurants category includes the redevelopment of the famous Bar Riviera in Sao Paulo -- a former left-wing hotspot during the military regimes of the 1960s and 70s and now one of the area's premier clubs with distinctive glass brick walls and a sculptural staircase.
Free-flowing work environments are a theme throughout the nominations, with disused shipping containers being converted into open studios by the Architecture Factory in Cork, Ireland, and offices made from a converted bunker by Haptic Architects in Oslo.

All nominees will compete in the form of live presentations and debates during the Inside World Festival of Interiors October 1-3 at the Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
