If you want to take a moment and salute the relentless spiritof men and women in blue, who defend our skies, then you can go join the the celebrations of Indian Air Force, which just completed 80 years in service of the nation. In a three-day event titled ‘Flight of Glory’, there will be a display and photo-ops with life-size aircrafts. There will also be performances by the Air Warrior Drill Team and Air Warrior and symphony orchestra and band. If you are keen on air force souvenirs, you can find books and memorabilia at stalls at the event. A photo montage of 30 illuminated panels showing IAF celebrating the past, working the present and preparing for the future will also be on display. You can also enjoy an IAF-themed gaming arcade and various IAF movie shows.

Artist Probir Gupta has practiced a refined form of abstract painting and will be holding an exhibition called Contemporary Panchtantra showing of his recent works. While in his late 30s, the artist began to forge a route from which he could address themes like human rights, civics, class and communal tensions, and labour relations through forms, materials and images. Today Probir has fused these influences into an expanded scope. The present body of work is about recounting and storytelling.

Seeking a spiritual centre
To bring alive the memories and magic of one of India’s cultural and creative hubs, Banaras, Bhuvneshwari Kala Kendra, a cultural centre setup will be holding a painting exhibition, “Banaras - A Spiritual Quest” by a modern and contemporary artist from Banaras, Dr Sanjay Singh. The centre that has space for some 30 artists with facilities for painting, sculpture and print-making and aims to provide creative space to the artists from all across India.

Flavours of Baisakhi
It’s all foodies’ delight as city eateries offer up sumptuous spreads as part of the Baisakhi festival. Amritsari restaurant Ambarsari has announced a 10-day Baisakhi celebration. Among the starters on offer will be chatpata Lawrence-road-DA-tandoori-chicken to Chapli kebab. Another treat on offer is at Café Delhi Delight. The Baisakhi menu comprises lassi, Rajasthani laal maas, and flambéed gulab jamun for sweets.

Playing for the jailhouse
Earlier this year, rock band Menwhopause held a workshop in Tihar Jail and staged a concert with inmates. Now, The Ska Vengers, the Delhi-based ska band, will play at a benefit concert for the jail at BlueFrog, next Thursday. This is the first of two concerts being held to facilitate the provision of musical equipment and tuition within Tihar and is supported by Furtados.
