Lalit Kala Akademi is going to mount more than 200 works of Francis Newton Souza from the private collection of Dhoomimal Gallery.

Francis Newton Souza, India’s modern artist best known internationally for his use of bold lines and often explicit works created to expose the society’s hypocrisy, comes alive in a new retrospective. Beginning April 10, the Lalit Kala Akademi will mount more than 200 works of the renowned painter sourced from the private collection of Dhoomimal Gallery.

Titled Volte Face: Souza’s Iconoclastic Vision, the 10-day fest would also host film screenings, poetry sessions, talks with friends and collectors such as Ebrahim Alkazi, Krishen Khanna and Anjolie Ela Menon, as well as hold workshops for children. Souza was known as one of the first Indian artists to gain prominence in the West.
