New Delhi got a taste of royalty this Thursday, with the formal inauguration of Instituto Cervantes by Prince Don Felipe and Princess Dona Letizia of Spain. The Institute will offer Spanish lessons and aims to be a cultural meeting point for India and Spain, said its Director, Carmen Caffarel, at the event.
Make some time this weekend to enjoy Spanish films made by women directors, being screened at the Institute on Saturday and Sunday from 3.30 p.m. The Best of Me (2007) is one of the films being screened at the festival. The theme is love, in all its complicated glory and the director Roser Aguilar will also be there. She and noted director Gargi Sen will have a discussion after the screening about Spanish and Indian cinematic forms.
Sunday promises to be equally dramatic. A Fiance for Yasmina (2008), directed by Irene Cardona, tells the story of a woman who confronts her marital problems while trying to help immigrants in Spain. Problems arise when her personal and professional lives converge.
