With a month still remaining for the current academic year to end, here’s a chance for city college students to escape tedious lectures. Youth organisation AISEC is organising a week-long series of interactive forums titled Empower, where students in the age group of 17-23 can learn various things — from how to impress prospective employers at interviews, to how to promote a struggling band, or grab interships at the best organisations. Empower will be held from April 4 to 10 at St. Xavier’s College, St. Francis Institute of Technology (SFIT), Veermata Jijabai Technological Institute (VJTI), Mukesh Patel School of Technology management and Engineering (MPSTME) and Sasmira Institute of Management.

“Our focus is to provide workshops that expose students to unconventional career options, and also workshops that impart necessary skills such as working on their visibility to receiving the best offers in terms of professional opportunities,” says Sherilynn Tellis, organising committee vice president, workshops, AISEC.

At the workshop titled ‘Get the internship you really really want!’, professionals will guide students on how to choose the best internships. At ‘Investing 101 — What you need to know to make big bucks’, they learn how to invest and manage their money.

The Band Workshop will have city bands Last Ride Home and Blakc share their journey with students who want to make a career in music. Says Anish Menon, guitarist, Blakc, “We’ll discuss with the students our journey as a band — such as where we went wrong in the past — and help the attendees avoid those mistakes.”
