From bold sarcasm on the present construction work taking place in the Capital to a tribute to the public walls in the city, the scene in Delhi’s art circle is getting more daring, exciting and enterprising.
As the second quarter of the art season begins in the city, we introduce three artists to watch out for this season. Artist Trishla Jain debuts with her solo exhibition, ‘That Freshness’.
Artist Nandan Ghiya’s artwork is inspired by painted public spaces. He believes public walls are a great example of doctrine of the human civilisation.
Another artist, Vibha Galhotra has come a long way. From photography to all other mediums of art, she has a taste of everything. She is currently into site-specific art installations.
For Trishla Jain, 25, love with art began when she was 5-years-old. Since then, she has been pursuing her interest with no formal training, and there has been no looking back. “I don’t have any formal training in art. Whatever I have learnt, is through informal training like travelling and reading a lot of literature.”
Jain’s specialty lies in using vibrant colours and objects found in nature to make her art pieces. “I use a lot of volume to paint, which brings in the energy and vibrancy into my work. I want people to be happy and positive when they look at my artwork.” With her inspiration in European impressionist artists, Jain wants to call her tryst with art — Rising in Love.
So it your first love? “Yes, of course, colours are my first love and painting is a natural expression of colours,” she says.
Under the exhibition titled ‘That Freshness’, Jain started working on the exhibition two years back. She now has 50 pieces on display which include paintings, three dimensional collages and sculptures. The exhibition is on from 24— 28 October at Stainless Art Gallery, New Friends Colony.

Titled ‘Time, The Vandal’, the exhibition has 20 pieces on display that are all done with acrylic on canvas and every canvas tells a different story.
“These walls may not be visually attractive but they do carry useful information and advertisement that we never miss or ignore,” Ghiya says.Explaining his work, he further says, “One of my paintings shows a public wall with electric meters. Its basically showing how these objects interact with the walls. Also, no matter how vital these walls are to us, we never sit and admire them. Do we?”

Inspired by the changing face of Delhi, five years back, artist Vibha Galhotra decided to stay in the city and capture the moods related to the construction, deconstruction and reconstruction of the Capital.
Galhotra, who is currently displaying her work in the ongoing exhibition at Lalit Kala Akademi, is into site-specific art installations.
Lot of Galhotra’s work take a sarcastic view on situations around us. Her work titled ‘Work in Progress’ shows how for a long duration, everything in the city has been ‘under progress’. “My work captures the various moods of the heroes (labourers) at different construction sites in Delhi,” she says.
