The use of bright colours has always been an abstract artist’s forte. This is quite evident in artist Suresh Sharma’s works at his exhibition at the Shridharani Art Gallery, which explores colour and space in the abstract realm.
The untitled work displayed at the exhibition uses a melange of colours -both bright and pastel. As per Sharma, his work is a result of a fearless mind, nourished by a passion for the art of painting.
“My works are often formless. I want the viewers to know that there are no strict notions of measured proportion, and clarity of structure,” he says.
In keeping with the international style of abstract expressionism, Sharma’s work is spontaneous — with straight lines trying to make sense of the chaos of colour in the backdrop, creating a subtle pattern that reflects the artist’s aesthetic sense.
“My compositions are mostly acrylic colours on canvas or drawings on the paper in dry pastels. I believe in detail of abstract designs and patterns and that’s what my current exhibition is all about,” says Sharma.
A prominent figure in the art space of Rajasthan, Sharma’s work is part of the collection at the National Gallery of Modern Art in Delhi, Brooklyn Museum and New York.
