Traditional Indian arts and crafts will take centerstage at the Paramparik Karigar exhibition to be held over the weekend. Showcasing their paintings and ceramics are nine artists from across the country.

“Since India has gone the modern art way, the focus has been shifted off more traditional forms of art. This is an endeavour to preserve our heritage of art and craft,” says Anu Chowdhary-Sorabjee, member of the organising committee. “We want to provide a platform for these artists in urban cities.”

Some of the participating artists have previously taken part in international exhibitions, where their works have received plenty of acclaim. “They are very respected names in their field,” says Sorabjee of these artists, some of whom hail from families that have been involved in these arts for many generations.

Paramparik Karigar is an effort to afford recognition to artists who, in the obscurity of their villages, remain largely unappreciated for their work.

The Paramparik Karigar exhibition and sale is taking place today and tomorrow between 10.30 am and 6.30 pm, at Coomaraswamy Hall, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya
