Delhiites are in for a new form of entertainment, as a team of 20 talented acrobats from Mongolia are all set to perform in the city. ‘Acromania-The Mongolian Circus’ gives the present generation a glimpse into the old world circus, with modern innovations and techniques to make the experience more entertaining. “We are trying to introduce the new generation to the fun of circus which was so common in our times. Since animals are not allowed to be a part of circus in India, we decided to focus on the acrobats,” says Anumod Sharma of Kingdom of Dreams, the venue where the circus will be performing.
The circus starts in an informal fun way, with the members of the audience being invited onto the stage for an interactive session. The gravity-defying stunts of the acrobats are bound to leave you in awe, as you will get a glimpse of the unlimited potential in the human body. The gymnasts swing into motion next, and are followed by somersaults in the ‘Kachalk’ act, making for a tense moment, as you wait for them to land safely on the other end of the stage. There is also an aerial silk piece that tells the story of two lovers. “We have tried to combine the traditional aspects of the Mongolian circus with the technical capabilities of the auditorium,” says Anindita Menon, creative director of the show.
The 90-minute show does have its moments of lull, when it becomes too intense or technical. But the interval makes up for it, as a group of clowns help lighten the mood with their comic antics. The fun part is that they also make the audience a part of their hilarious tricks. The energy in the juggling act at the end will make you leave on a happy note.
