About 65 teachers in Bhopal were issued show-cause notices by the District Education Officer (DEO) for not participating in government surveys.

Since the beginning of May, around 2.5 lakh government school teachers from Madhya Pradesh were asked to conduct a few surveys under the School Chalo Abhiyan.

Time and again teachers have complained to education authorities to stop the survey process as their health was deteriorating in the scorching heat.

According to teachers, every year, a survey is conducted from June 16 to 30 to inquire about the number of children, the number of students and the number of dropouts from schools.

This was done to encourage the parents to send their children to school.

However, this year, teachers from classes 1 to 8 across the state were expected to go to every ward and enquire about the number of people in the house and collect other personal information.

Sources say that the survey is conducted in gram shiksha register and the columns are almost the same as of the census survey.

However, in a notice released by the district education officer on Thursday, 65 teachers were given a show-cause notice and were told that if they do not go for the surveys, they will be suspended.

“These teachers have violated the service rules, 1965. They have not followed the directions given to them by the authorities. Hence, we had to take a step and if we do not get a satisfactory answer from them, they will get a suspension letter,” said DEO of Bhopal Dharmendra Sharma.
