The Madhya Pradesh high court on Monday issued notices to police and the CBI and barred the media from publishing contents of a petition filed regarding the alleged custodial torture of an RSS pracharak Suresh Yadav last month.
Hearing a PIL filed by Democratic Lawyers Forum, a division bench comprising acting Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice Anjuli Palo issued notices to the MP government through the home secretary, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), the CBI, state DGP and the Balaghat SP.
It also ordered that “nothing pertaining to the merits of the matter or allegations made in the petition shall be published by the way of press statement or news in the media.”
The petitioner, represented by senior advocate and Rajya Sabha member Vivek Tankha, demanded revocation of suspension of seven cops and criminal cases registered against them. The court will hear the petition after a week.
On September 25, Yadav was detained by a police team led by additional SP Rajesh Sharma for posting an offensive message against a particular community on social media.
He was allegedly beaten in custody by the cops following which seven cops, including ASP Rajesh Sharma and Baihar police station in-charge Ziya ul Haq were booked for various offences, including attempt to murder.
