Massive outrage over the death of a trader Sanjay Jain on Wednesday led to the 'line-attachment' of town inspector (TI) of Ashoka Garden police station on Thursday. The accused, however, are still on run.
Superintendent of police (SP), south, Anshuman Singh has issued the order in this regard. According to the order, TI of Ashoka Garden Purnendra Singh has been attached to police lines till the next order.
Additional superintendent of police (ASP), zone-2, Riyaz Iqbal was assigned responsibility to conduct a department inquiry over the role of TI and police station staff on the accident.
Jain (36), a resident of Roshanbagh locality, died in a hospital on Tuesday evening after he was allegedly beaten up by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) leader Deependra Shrivastava and his friends.
The accused had also beaten up deceased's family members who accompanied him to BJYM leader's house to lodge their protest against beating of Sanjay Jain's cousin Rahul Jain a day. The protestors also alleged that the police refused to file a case against the accused when the Jain family had approached them.
Following Sanjay Jain's death, over 500 residents of Roshanbagh locality staged a 'chakka jam' in front of the police station on Wednesday. The agitated mob called off their protest only after the police registered a case of murder against BJYM leader and his friends. According to sources, a police team carried out a raid at BJYM leader's residence at New Ashoka Garden area but the house was found locked from outside.

{{/usCountry}}The police also raided several possible hideouts of Deependra Shrivastava but he was not found. Sources further added that about five youths were detained by the police on Wednesday night in connection with the case. They were released after interrogation.
Riyaz Iqbal told HT that a department inquiry has been started to find out the role of Ashoka Garden police. "Strict action will be taken against police personnel if found guilty. A massive hunt is being carried out to nab Deependra Shrivastava." He further said Shrivstava is the prime accused in the case and identity of other accused would be established after Shrivstava is nabbed.
