There were 13,496 complaints of nuisance created by drunkards in the state’s tribal dominated districts — Chhindwara, Sidhi, Dhar, Betul, Seoni, Balaghat, Shahdol, Mandla, Anuppur, Jhabua and Alirajpur — in the past six months.

Chhindwara topped the list with 2,514 complaints followed by Sidhi 1,751 and Dhar 1,618.

The most number of complaints, 33,873, were about minor injuries while the third most, 11,697, were about road accidents.

The other complaints received by the police on the Dial-100 were about theft, fire and domestic violence.

“The complaints about nuisance created by drunkards are received mostly during evening. After receiving complaints, the first response vehicles (FRVs) of Dial-100 service reaches the spot and action is taken by police station of that area,” superintendent of police (Dial-100) Amit Saxena told Hindustan Times.

Another police officer, on the condition of anonymity, said: “In many cases, Dial-100 police team found that the wife of a drunkard lodged a complaint because her husband has not shared liquor with her.”
