Cong workers stage protest in Bhopal over substandard medicines

Congress workers took out a march towards health minister Narottam Mishra’s bungalow to protest the distribution of allegedly sub-standard medicines in hospitals in Madhya Pradesh.

Congress workers took out a march towards health minister Narottam Mishra’s bungalow to protest the distribution of allegedly sub-standard medicines in hospitals in Madhya Pradesh. As per the plan, the party workers began their march from the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) office on Monday.

The Congress leaders allege that medicines worth Rs 29 crore have been distributed in hospitals in MP, and the medicines are sub-standard. They were supposed to lay siege to the bungalow. However, aniticipating trouble, the policemen had already been deployed on the spot.

Barricades were put up on roads to stop the protesters. Hundreds of party workers, shouting slogans, tried to go past the barricades to reach the minister’s house at Char Imli. The police used force and there was a scuffle, before the Congress workers could be stopoed.

However, many Congress workers were rounded up and were later released.

Earlier, Congress leaders said that while the accountant general’s audit report mentions that certain medicines are sub-standard, the government isn't taking it seriously. The party leaders alleged that there was massive corruption in the Health department.
