The drive, that began on August 10 after the new notification pertaining to the increase of fine from Rs 50 to Rs 440, was carried out for only 10 days.

Trippling and driving without helmet is a common sight in the city.

However, the consistency of the drive of the traffic police after the new raised fine came into force has brought down the number offenders.

Speaking to HT, deputy superintendent of police (traffic) Mahendra Singh Chhari said, "Recent studies have revealed that the percentage of those wearing headgears have gone up from 5% to 32%, which is quite an improvement."

When asked why on some days a very few offenders were dines, Chhari said it is not possible to cover the entire city by covering five to six points of the city and apart from that there are other important works to be done.

He said very soon each police station in the city will have two points each, so that major part of the state capital is covered under every drive.
