A day after the decomposed body of a PMT aspirant was found in a waterbody on the outskirts of Bhopal, police on Tuesday arrested two youths on the charges of abetting his suicide. But the 20-year-old’s father said his son was murdered.

The accused were identified as Rahul Mourya, 22, an engineering student, and Dheeraj Kedkar, 25, a private van driver, police said, adding that both were produced in a local court which sent them to jail.

According to the police, Shubham Yadav went missing from his home in Sudama Nagar on November 17, and his body was found in a water body in Ratibad on November 23. A case of suicide was registered as no injury mark was found on the body.

The deceased boy’s father, Santosh Yadav, however, cited an audio clip obtained from Shubaham’s phone in which a man can be heard issuing threats. The phone that the youth had left at home has been submitted to the police.

“Rahul had also threatened Shubham that he would inform his father if he doesn’t stop meeting his sister,” said a police source.

Kamla Nagar police station town inspector Mukhtar Qureshi said, “Following investigation we detained Rahul and his friend Dheeraj Kedkar. The statements of the two accused suggest that Shubham committed suicide after he was threatened by them.”

Kedkar drives a private van that ferried Rahul’s sister from her home to the coaching centre.
