Chanda was questioned by the immigration and custom officials at Delhi airport for more than three hours before they handed him over to the Madhya Pradesh police team, said HS Jadaun of Guna police over phone.

“We will leave for Guna by train in the evening, “ he said.

Vishnu Das Sharma alias Chanda from Khuja village in Guna went missing three years back and mysteriously surfaced in China, where he was imprisoned for months.

He went missing after escaping from a the railway station in Guna on the way to a mental hospital at Gwalior.

Chanda’s brother, Bhagwati Prasad said he was very happy that his brother was back. “I want to start his treatment at a hospital in Gwalior as soon as possible. I don’t want him to run away again,” he said.

“We guess that he fled and went to the Himalayas and crossed over to China.”

HT reported about curious case of Chanda. His story came in the media limelight spotlight after the Chinese authorities ascertained his Indian identity.

He was picked up by police after complaints from residents of Anning city in southwestern Yunnan province last June. Since he was not carrying any documents and spoke a language unknown to local police, he was sent to jail.

RV Sinha, a faculty member of the Yunnan Nationalities University in Kunming, helped the Chinese police in interacting with the man and contacting the Guna police.
