Demanding justice for Shivani, the girl who had committed suicide after allegedly been scolded by her teacher on Thursday, a large number of schoolchildren held a candlelight protest near the Bhopal railway station on Sunday evening.

Apart from Shivani's family and relatives, residents of Rajendra Nagar, kids belonging to other schools also attended the protest. Shivani's father Hriday Narayan Tomar said their aim is that Shivani's death shouldn't go in vain and the message must spread.

"The teachers must be more sensitive towards the kids and should also be careful in handling them," he said.

All eyes turned moist when Shivani's younger sister Neeta, 11, lit up the candles. Her mother was seen in tears and unable to even walk. She gave candles to other children.

The kids were holding placards with messages on the issue. They held protest in front of GRP police station and later marched to the Bazaria police station, demanding justice. They wanted action from police in this regard.

Shivani was made to stand outside the class and also allegedly threatened that she would not be made to sit in exam. "There are so many teachers who listen to children. But there are a few who do not. Children are vulnerable and give enormous respect to teachers but when the same teachers act harshly, they get hurt," said one of the participants.
