Labourer Pramod Sharma, who was arrested on March 24 for allegedly abducting and raping a minor after luring her with a chocolate on Holi (March 23), resembles the man accused in the January 2016 Aishbag and November 2015 Piplani rape cases, said additional superintendent of police (ASP) Mayank Awasthi.

Sharma was arrested on the basis of a closed circuit television (CCTV) camera grab where he is seen taking the victim on his bicycle.

“On the basis of initial investigations, cops strongly believe that Sharma might have committed similar crimes in the past. There were two cases in Aishbag and Piplani localities of Bhopal in which two minor girls were raped after the accused took them on his bicycle after luring them with chocolates. Pramod (Sharma) used the same modus operandi in the Avadhpuri case,” said Awasthi.
