Attacking chief minister Vasundhara Raje for allegedly shielding Aklera MLA Kanwar Lal Meena from prosecution, activist Aruna Roy claimed that the state government is suppressing all forms of dissent.
Meena is facing charges of allegedly attacking the convoy of activists during their accountability campaign in Aklera in January. Despite videos of the incident, the MLA is still at large.
“We were brutally attacked in chief minister’s constituency. Instead of apologizing to the activists, CM has refused to even meet us. Now, we are told by the home minister that Raje has stopped the arrest of Meena. The MLA has 20 FIRs against him,” said Roy.
“The state government is busy suppressing all forms of dissent, anybody who is not in sync with BJP’s ideology is considered seditious,” she added.
Roy and other activists were addressing an agitation by volunteers of Soochna Avum Rozgar ka Adhikaar Abhiyaan’, who were demanding arrest of the MLA and implementation of accountability law.
Congress state president Sachin Pilot also demanded the arrest of Meena saying that the voice of dissent is being crushed in Rajasthan.
“Police doesn’t need the permission from chief minister or home minister for needful arrest. Yet, the MLA is still at large, is it because he belongs to the ruling party. I demand immediate arrest of Meena. The state government is creating an atmosphere that doesn’t let common people to unite,” said Pilot.

“We undertook an accountability journey of 100 days and registered more than 10,000 complaints from all across Rajasthan. We have proposed formation of an accountability law to keep the bureaucracy in check and ensure that funds reach the needy,” said Nikhil Dey, another activist.
