Around 50 school children of Gora Sukarbada village in Babai block of Hoshangabad district of Madhya Pradesh fell ill after eating midday meal at a primary school of the village on Thursday. They were rushed to the district hospital of Hoshangabad for treatment.

Condition of 5-6 children is said to be still critical. The children complained about stomachache and vomiting after eating the midday meal served to them in the school on Thursday afternoon.

The district administration has expelled two members of the self-help group which was responsible for serving the midday meal to the children. The contract of the self-help group has been also cancelled by the authorities.

This is the second major incident of food adulteration in midday meal within one week in the state. On the occasion of Independence Day 59 children of the government primary school in village Balapur of Ichchwar in the Sehore district were hospitalised after they consumed Puris fried in non-edible oil.

The children started vomiting after eating the puris served to them and 59 of them had to be rushed to the local health centre. While most of them were allowed to go after primary treatment, eight of them were referred to the district hospital as their condition worsened.
