The Madhya Pradesh Assembly on Sunday unanimously passed an unofficial resolution asking the Central Government to ensure that Kashmiri Pandits displaced from Kashmir due to insurgency should be given all assistance and security so that they can return to their homeland.
The resolution was moved by Uma Shankar Gupta of BJP stating that large number of Kashmiri Pandits were forced to live in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur in the state as they were displaced from their land due to insurgency.
He said in the beginning of the last decade, nearly 260 Kashmiri Pandits were killed by the terrorists forcing them to leave their trade and age-old culture. In the entire country over seven lakh such people are there and they wanted to return to their homes in the valley.
Gupta demanded that a separate Union Territory be created for their settlement in the valley, they should be given the status of internal displaced persons under the UN charter, a special economic package and security to their religious places and properties.
The resolution was supported by Industries and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kailash Vijaywargiya stating that there is a need to understand the pain and agony of the displaced persons following which it was unanimously passed.
