One of the most curious cases of the multi-layered Vyapam scam, FIR number 449/10 at the MP Nagar police station in Bhopal, provides a glimpse into how the Madhya Pradesh police went about their investigations.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) finally took over this case on Monday. The FIR pertains to rigging in Patwaris’ recruitment examination 2008 conducted by Vyapam, the Hindi acronym of the professional examination board (PEB).
It is among the most initial FIRs in the scam, which was registered in 2010, years before the scam hit headlines.
But even five years after the case was registered, police failed to catch the accused though they accept that the complaint was genuine and had provided information about rigging in the exam. Police, however, have no idea about the complainant.
“We had got information about the rigging from an unidentified person. It was investigated but we could not reach any conclusion,” said a police official at the MP Nagar police.
“The officials kept changing and hence the case could not be investigated,” he said. Sources in the MP Nagar police station said the case was filed on the basis of a letter received through post.

Talking to HT, Town Inspector, MP Nagar, Brajesh Bhargav said that police made efforts but the accused could not be caught.
